After spending the 2025 season with the Toronto Blue Jays organization, veteran infielder Michael Stefanic is reportedly taking his services to the West Coast next season.
Stefanic agreed to a minor-league deal with the Athletics on Monday, per ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel. His contract will also include an invitation to major-league camp next spring.
The 29-year-old, who elected free agency last month, played 106 games with triple-A Buffalo last season, hitting .287/.403/.383 with six home runs and 51 RBIs. He also impressed to the tune of a 122 wRC+ (100 league average), spending most of his time at second base, shortstop and third base for the Bisons.
Stefanic also briefly made an appearance with the Blue Jays, earning 25 plate appearances in nine games with the big-league club, recording four hits — all singles — and a trio of walks and strikeouts each.
Before catching on with Toronto as a minor-league free agent last off-season, Stefanic had spent his entire professional career with the Los Angeles Angels, making his MLB debut in 2022. He logged three seasons with the Halos from 2022-24, slashing .232/.317/.275 with nine extra-base hits, 14 RBIs and a measly 73 wRC+, worth minus-0.2 fWAR.
The right-handed-hitting infielder will enter spring training looking to carve out a role on the Athletics’ bench behind a group that’ll feature Max Muncy (no relation to the Dodgers’ Max Muncy), Jacob Wilson and Zack Gelof from left to right on the diamond in 2026.
