The Toronto Blue Jays are sending two players to this summer’s Major League Baseball All-Star Week festivities: Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Fernando Perez. The former is the starting first baseman for the American League in the All-Star Game and the latter is Toronto’s representative in the Futures Game. 

Another player with Blue Jays ties and Canadian heritage in the festivities is outfielder Owen Caissie. 
From Burlington, Ontario, Caissie is a top prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization. He was selected in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Notre Dame High School, a program that competes in the notorious Canadian Premier Baseball League (CPBL), and is the highest-drafted outfielder in Canadian history. 
The left-handed hitting outfielder was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team program and was a hit at the Canadian Futures Showcase. The Canadian Futures Showcase is a highly reputable scouting event hosted by the Blue Jays. It encompasses the best 190 Canadian players nationwide, split between teams over a week, playing and showcasing on the Rogers Center field. 
This event is scouted by various schools and all 30 MLB clubs. Caissie was a huge part of that event, showing well and raising interest across the league. San Diego was the club that opened its wallet in the draft to select and sign Caissie in the second round of the 2020 draft. He was the 45th overall pick. 
Late that year, Caissie was traded with another prospect to the Cubs in a package that sent back Yu Darvish and others. Since Caissie has found a home, he’s settled in well and has been comfortable with his performance and development.

Scouts, evaluators, journalists, and executives rave about Caissie and what he offers. He currently holds the third spot of the Cubs&#8217; top 30 prospects. He’s their top outfield prospect and second-best positional prospect. 
Caissie has progressed extremely well physically and fundamentally. His power is very noticeable and is probably his top tool. He has a compact swing with a solid launch angle and barrel control. Caissie is selective in counts and hunts fastballs early on. 
The Canadian prospect’s first year in professional baseball was a success. Between rookie and A-ball in 2021, Caissie posted a .302 batting average with 55 hits, seven home runs, and 29 RBIs. In 2022, he competed in High-A, launching 11 home runs and 58 RBIs on 96 hits. His speed also prevailed with 11 stolen bags. 
The 2023 season was his breakout year. He plastered a career-high 22 home runs with 84 RBIs on 127 hits over 439 at-bats. He slashed .289/.399/.519 with 228 total bases. 2024 has also been off to a good start. 
Caissie is expected to be in the show at some point this year and he’s expected to rake. Projections have him as a 20-plus home run guy with 90-plus RBIs and 18 average stolen bags a game. The lefty will show off more of his tools in this year’s Futures Games before his nearby road to the Major Leagues.
