Blue Jays: Carson Messina and Charles McAdoo win Player of the Week awards

For the fourth consecutive week, the Toronto Blue Jays have at least one player named as either Player of the Week or Pitcher of the Week.
This past week, Charles McAdoo earned the International League’s Player of the Week, while Carson Messina won the Florida State League’s Pitcher of the Week. It’s the 20th and 21st time a Blue Jays’ prospect has been given either award this season.
McAdoo, 24, played in all six games for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons this past week. Over 29 plate appearances, the infielder hit four home runs and struck out just four times, all while slashing .464/.483/.893 for a 253 wRC+. McAdoo has now hit a home run in each of his last four games.
For the season, he’s slashing .269/.366/.465 in 385 plate appearances with the Bisons, matching his 16 home runs that he hit in 2025. His career came in his first full season, hitting 17 in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Blue Jays organization in 2024.
McAdoo has also had a cup of tea in the big leagues, batting just .160/.160/.280 with a home run over 25 games, good for a 14 wRC+. If the Blue Jays fall out of contention for a postseason spot, McAdoo could be one of a handful of prospects who get a look as an audition for the 2027 season.
As for Messina, the 20-year-old was drafted in the 12th round of the 2024 draft. After throwing just two innings in 2025, Messina has finally gotten his career on track. He only pitched once this past week, going five hit-less innings, walking three and striking out four.
Since joining the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, the right-handed pitcher has a 3.26 ERA and 4.26 FIP in 30.1 innings of work, with a 25 K% and 14.4 BB%. For the season, which includes his five Florida Complex League outings, he has a 2.72 ERA and 3.84 FIP in 46.1 innings of work, with a 27.7 K% and 13.6 BB%.
Messina is just one of a handful of pitching prospects who have raised his stock this season. Nolan Perry is another player to have done that, winning two Pitcher of the Week awards at two separate levels. Perry is one of three prospects to win an “of the Week” award twice this season, joined by Tucker Toman and Alexis Hernandez.
There have now been 18 winners of the awards, including Sean Keys, Daniel Guerra, Jay Harry, Blaine Bullard, and Johnny King.
