The Toronto Blue Jays have to stop the bleeding.
After a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, the Blue Jays are now on six game losing streak, losing seven of their last eight games. Pitching has been a lone bright spot, but the bats have struggled mightily and injuries haven’t helped at all.
It’s not going to get any easier for the Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon, as Shohei Ohtani is set to get the start for the Dodgers. His lone start came on March 31st, as he went six scoreless innings against the Cleveland Guardians, striking out six and allowing three walks. With how the Blue Jays are hitting this season (they aren’t), it’s going to be tough to generate anything off Ohtani.
Dylan Cease will make his third start of the season. He had a record-breaking debut in the Blue Jays’ second game of the season, but was far less dominant in his last outing against the Chicago White Sox. The righty went just four and one-thirds innings with two earned runs allowed (three total runs), striking out six and walking three.
As for the lineup, it remains largely the same as Tuesday’s game. George Springer leads off, Daulton Varsho hits second, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hits third. Jesús Sánchez hits cleanup, followed by Kazuma Okamoto, Ernie Clement, Nathan Lukes, and Andrés Giménez. The lone difference will see Tyler Heineman draw in for Brandon Valenzuela, hitting in the ninth in the lineup.
Let’s set up Wednesday afternoon’s series finale.
