On Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays extended their winning streak to nine games.
It’s their largest win streak in a decade, as the 2015 Blue Jays won 11 consecutive games, turning their season around and eventually going to the American League Championship Series. With a win on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox, they can get to within one game of matching the winning streak.
All three of the Blue Jays outfielders, Joey Loperfido, Nathan Lukes, and Addison Barger, went deep for the Blue Jays, going from a 1-1 game to a 5-1 game. Lukes has played three games in the lead-off spot in the last four, and he has six hits (two doubles, one home run) in 16 plate appearances. Loperfido has three hits since returning.
Barger won’t be in the outfield tonight, as he returns to the infield to play third base. He’s now slashing .269/.328/.515 with 12 home runs in 248 plate appearances for a 132 wRC+, he’s arguably been the biggest reason for them being in first place.
Lukes leads off, followed by George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Bo Bichette remains batting clean-up, followed by Barger and Alejandro Kirk. The Jays’ bottom third is comprised of Loperfido, Ernie Clement, and Davis Schneider. Quite a well-rounded lineup.
Chris Bassitt makes the start for the Blue Jays. Last time out, he pitched five and two-thirds innings while allowing three earned runs. He was the last starter in the Jays’ last loss, going just two innings while giving up nine runs, eight of which were earned, on June 28.
Let’s set up Tuesday evening’s game!
