The Buffalo Bisons have found their Opening Day starter.
Per the Bisons’ website, right-hander Grant Rogers will be taking the hill when the Bisons welcome the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders this Friday at Sahlen Field to open up the 2026 season.
An 11th-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2023, the 6-foot-7 Texas product spent most of last season in Double-A New Hampshire, making 20 starts. The McNeese State alum started the year on the West Coast with the High-A Vancouver Canadians before getting promoted.
Across both levels, Rogers pitched to a 3.47 ERA with a 6.9 K/9 and a 1.251 WHIP through a career high 150 1/3 innings. He started hot in Vancouver, keeping the bats at bay in the hitter-friendly confines of the Northwest League. Rogers allowed just eight earned runs through eight starts and 39 2/3 innings of work before getting the call to the opposite coast.
With the Fisher Cats, Rogers saw a slight uptick in his ERA (4.07) and H/9 (9.6) against better competition but was able to command the strike zone, allowing just 20 free passes to the tune of a 1.6 BB/9. Rogers was also able to keep the ball in the yard, allowing just 10 home runs all season long for a 0.6 HR/9 mark.
This spring, the 24-year-old was given a few opportunities to start in his first foray in big league camp. He made three starts and allowed seven earned runs over 7 1/3 innings. He was still steady with his command (two walks) while striking out six, but he allowed 11 hits and one home run during that span.
Rogers is one name to keep an eye on in Buffalo as the Jays’ starting depth is being tested out of the gate. He and left-hander Adam Macko are both on the big league radar this season, and both would benefit from a strong start to the Triple-A season to pad their chances of a call-up in 2026.
Ranked at #30 on the Jays’ top prospect list via MLB Pipeline, Rogers as entered the conversation as a potential starting option, whether it be this season or potentially next.
