The Florida Complex League Blue Jays have earned a spot in the playoffs.
This is the July 21– July 25 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at how the last three days have gone for each of the Toronto Blue Jays’ affiliates. We’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, FCL Jays, and their two DSL teams in this article.
Let’s dig in!

Bisons win three of four to begin the week

On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Columbus Clippers 3-1. Jonatan Clase hit his first home run in Triple-A this season, while Michael Stefanic had a two-hit game. Anders Tolhurst made the start, pitching five scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Paxton Schultz pitched 2.2 innings with four strikeouts.
They fell 6-4 to the Clippers on Wednesday, as Clase hit two doubles, as did RJ Schreck. Lazaro Estrada made the start, giving up three earned runs in 2.2 innings pitched, with four walks. Hunter Gregory’s Triple-A struggles continued, giving up an earned run in an inning and a third. Amir Garrett struck out two in an inning and a third, but Ryan Jennings was tagged with the loss, giving up two earned runs in a third of an inning.
Thursday saw the Bisons win 7-1, as Clase hit another double. Phil Clarke and Alan Roden each hit one double, while Orelvis Martínez, Yohendrick Piñango, and Josh Rivera hit one double. Adam Macko had his best Triple-A start, going five innings of one-hit ball while striking out five.
At worst, the Bisons will split the series, as they defeated the Clippers 10-3 on Friday. A rehabbing Daulton Varsho hit another home run, while Buddy Kennedy and Ali Sánchez each hit two doubles. Stefanic also hit a double. Easton Lucas made the start, going three scoreless innings with five hits and four strikeouts. CJ Van Eyk pitched four innings, giving up one earned run and striking out six in four innings of work.

Fisher Cats split the first four games

Tuesday saw the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fall 4-2 to the Hartford Yard Goats. Edison Paulino hit his seventh home run of the season, while Gabriel Martinez hit a double and Jackson Hornung hit a triple. Michael Dominguez made the start, giving up four earned runs in three innings of work. Alex Amalfi also pitched three innings, striking out four, as he didn’t allow a run.
On Wednesday, the Fisher Cats defeated the Yard Gouts 10-2. Je’Von Ward hit his first Double-A home run and had a multi-hit game. Devonte Brown, Hornung, and Cade Doughty also had multi-hit games, with Doughty finishing with three singles. Grant Rogers had another strong outing, going six innings with one earned run allowed. Pat Gallagher pitched a clean inning as well.
The Fisher Cats fell 6-3 on Thursday. Their lone extra-base hit came off the bat of Martinez, who hit his ninth double of the season. Kendry Rojas didn’t have the strongest of starts, giving up five runs (four earned) in four and one-third innings pitched, although he struck out seven. Nate Garkow pitched another scoreless outing, striking out four and walking two in 1.2 innings pitched.
With a 7-3 win on Friday, the Fisher Cats split the first four games. Paulino had a terrific game, hitting two home runs in a four-hit game. Canadians lost four of five

It hasn’t been a good week for the Vancouver Canadians, as they’ve already lost the seven-game series to the Eugene Emeralds. Tuesday’s game was a 12-3 defeat, with Edward Duran, Carter Cunningham, and Arjun Nimmala hitting doubles. Gage Stanifer had a tough start, giving up five earned runs in two and one-third innings of work.
On Wednesday, the Canadians fell 4-1. One bright spot from this game was Cutter Coffey, as he had a three-hit game, while Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit a double. Fernando Pérez didn’t have a bad start, going four innings with one earned run allowed and striking out five. Javen Coleman struck out six in 3.1 innings of work.
The Canadians were able to snap their four-game losing streak with a 4-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday. Coffey hit a double, as did Nick Goodwin, the only extra-base hits in this game by the Canadians. Chris McElvain pitched five innings, giving up one earned run. Kai Peterson pitched three scoreless innings, striking out four. Position player Peyton Powell pitched three innings, allowing one earned run and picking up a win. Micheletti Jr. hit the walk-off single.

Cunningham hit his 10th home run of the season, and Bryce Arnold hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth. Jackson Wentworth made the start, giving up four earned runs in six innings of work.

Rain impacted the D-Jays (again)

It’s been a weird start to the week for the Dunedin Blue Jays. They started a three-game series from Tuesday to Thursday, but finished just one game, a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Tarpons on Tuesday. Varsho, who was playing for the D-Jays at the time, hit his second home run at the level, while Alexis Hernandez, Tucker Toman, and Yhoangel Aponte hit doubles. Silvano Hechavarría pitched six innings, striking out five while allowing just two hits.
The D-Jays started a game with the Tarpons on Thursday, but that game was suspended. They started a three-game series against the Bradenton Marauders on Friday, winning a suspended game 4-3 in walk-off fashion.
Hechavarría also started this game, although he pitched on June 29, the day the game was suspended. He pitched four and two-thirds innings in this game, allowing three earned runs. Jay Schueler pitched the bulk of the game, going five innings with eight strikeouts. As for the bats, Alexis Hernandez hit his third home run of the season, while Edward Duran and Lizandro Rodriguez hit doubles.
In the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, the D-Jays fell 6-2 to the Marauders. Hernandez hit a double, the lone extra-base hit the D-Jays had in this game. Landen Maroudis made the start, giving up three earned runs and five walks in three innings of work. Juanmi Vasquez pitched two innings, striking out five. Gilberto Batista struck out three, but allowed three earned runs in two innings of work.

Aldo Gaxiola and Raimundo De Los Santos hit doubles. Austin Marozas made the start, giving up one unearned run in three and two-thirds innings of work. Lluveres Severino pitched three innings with four strikeouts.
After a rainout on Tuesday, the FCL Blue Jays played a crucial game against the FCL Tigers on Wednesday, defeating them 7-6. Beckles hit another home run, while both Gaxiola and Enmnauel Bonilla hit homers as well. Trenton Wallace pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Sann Omosako struck out two in his inning of work, picking up the win.
On Thursday, the Blue Jays needed a win and outside help. They got just that, defeating the FCL Phillies 4-1, while the FCL Orioles fell 4-3 to the FCL Twins, allowing the FCL Jays to move into a Wild Card spot. In their win, Gaxiola, Beckles, and Dariel Ramon hit doubles. Mason Olson made the start, giving up one earned run and striking out seven in five and two-thirds innings of work. Franly Urena pitched two innings, striking out three.
With the win, the FCL Jays play a single-game semifinal game on Saturday against the FCL Astros.

On Monday, they defeated the DSL Mariners 6-3, with Juan Sanchez hitting his seventh double of the season in a two-hit effort. Luis Fonseca made the start, striking out nine in four innings of work.
