Blue Jays Minor League Report: Will Robertson and Nick Goodwin hit five home runs in most recent series

This is the June 6 – June 9 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at how the last three days have gone for each of the Toronto Blue Jays’ affiliates. We’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, FCL Jays, and their two DSL teams in this article. Bisons win four of six
This past week, the Buffalo Bisons won four of six against the Syracuse Mets. One of those losses was on Friday, as they were thumped 18-0 with every pitcher giving up at least two earned runs. Spencer Turnbull made the start, giving up five earned runs in four and one-third innings.
They responded with a win on Saturday, beating the Mets 7-5. Yohendrick Pinago, Riley Tirotta, and Will Robertson hit home runs, while Joey Loperfido hit his first triple of the season. Anders Tolhurst made the start, going five innings with two earned runs allowed and five strikeouts. Tommy Nance picked up the save, striking out three in two innings.
The Bisons won 8-6 in extra innings on Sunday to avoid the series split. Robertson, Pinango, Schreck, and Damiano Palmegiani all hit home runs, the latter hitting his first of the season. Palmegiani and Schreck also hit doubles. Adam Macko made his first Triple-A start of the season, striking out four in four scoreless innings.

This week, the Bisons return home to host the Columbus Clippers for a six-game series.
Fisher Cats shut out Curve in four of six games
Pitching was dominant for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in their series against the Altoona Curve. In the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, Rafael Sanchez threw a no-hitter in the Fisher Cats’ 4-0 victory. Alex Stone hit a three-run home run, his first in Double-A.

Their shutout streak ended in the second game of the doubleheader, as the Fisher Cats won 5-2. Charles McAdoo and Devonte Brown each hit doubles, while Grant Rogers went six innings with five strikeouts and one earned run against.
The Fisher Cats were unable to complete the sweep on Sunday, falling 11-5 in the series finale. Peyton Williams and Dasan Brown each hit home runs while Robert Brooks and Eddinson Paulino hit doubles. Ryan Watson had a tough start, giving up four earned runs in four and two-thirds innings. Michael Dominguez gave up four runs, three earned, in his inning of work.

This week, the Fisher Cats head on the road for a six-game series against the Reading Fightin Phils.
Canadians win five of six
The Vancouver Canadians are playing their best baseball of the season. On Friday, they defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils 10-1, with Cutter Coffey, Eddie Micheletti Jr., and Nick Goodwin all hitting home runs. Trey Yesavage struck out nine in five innings in his final High-A start. Gage Stanifer pitched four innings, striking out six.
On Saturday, the Canadians won 7-4 to climb back to .500. Victor Arias, Coffey, Micheletti, and Goodwin hit home runs. Chris McElvain made the start, giving up three runs, two earned, in an inning and two-thirds. Aaron Munson struck out four in two and one-third innings, while Yondrei Rojas struck out three in two innings.
Nick Goodwin now has four home runs in this series against the Tri-City Dust Devils.
The Canadians capped off the series with an 11-6 win. Goodwin hit another home run, his fifth of the series, as did Carter Cunningham, his fourth of the year. Arjun Nimmala, Coffey, and Hayden Gilliland all hit doubles. Making the start for the Canadians was Fernando Perez, who gave up three earned runs in four innings of work.
This week, the Canadians return home to host Spokane for a six-game series.
D-Jays finally have a winning week
On Friday, the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the St. Lucie Mets 4-0, thanks to Tucker Toman’s second home run of the season. Edward Duran and Peyton Powell hit doubles. Austin Cates made the start, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Juanmi Vasquez struck out three in two and one-third innings, and Bennett Flynn struck out two in his inning of work.

The D-Jays defeated the Mets 5-4 on Saturday. Jean Joseph, Jacob Lojewski, and Toman hit doubles, as every starter except Manuel Beltre and Lizandro Rodriguez had a hit in this game. Silvano Hechavarria threw five innings with one earned run allowed and five strikeouts.
On Sunday, the D-Jays fell 4-2 to the Mets. Sam Shaw hit a double, Duran hit his fifth triple of the season, and Alexis Hernandez hit his first home run of the year. Colby Holcolme started the game, giving up four runs, three earned, in four and one-third innings of work.
This week, the D-Jays host the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels for a six-game series.
FCL Jays are on a three-game losing streak
On Friday, the Florida Complex League Blue Jays fell 2-0 to the FCL Phillies, mustering just two singles, one from Aldo Gaxiola and one from Dariel Ramon. Brandon Barriera made the start, pitching two innings in his first appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery. Nick Sandlin gave up two runs in a rehab appearance, and Troy Guthrie had a strong outing, pitching 3.2 innings with five strikeouts.
They followed that up with an 8-1 defeat on Saturday, also against the FCL Phillies. This time, the FCL Jays had five hits, with Yorman Licourt hitting his ninth double of the season. Landen Maroudis made the start, giving up three runs (two earned) while striking out three in two innings of work. Pedro Tucent struck out two in three innings of work.
On Monday, the FCL Jays fell 7-2 to the FCL Tigers. Will Wagner had a three-hit game, two of which were doubles. The player of the game for the FCL Jays was Junior Arias, as he hit a triple and his fourth home run of the season. Johnny King made the start, striking out eight and giving up two earned runs in three and two-thirds innings to move his season ERA to 1.17.
DSL Blue Jays Blue split the first two games
On Friday, the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays Blue defeated the DSL Twins 6-4. In total, they walked seven times while Rafael Flores, Juarlin Soto, Daniel Dominguez, Esmeiquel Arrieche, and J.T. Bain hit singles. Angel Rivero made the start, pitching two scoreless innings, and Deiker Pineda picked up the win, not allowing a hit in his 3.2 innings pitched, striking out three.
They fell 3-1 on Saturday to move to 2-3, with Dominguez and Dawin Nunez registering the only hits, both singles. Michael De La Cruz pitched three innings, striking out three. Juan Ramirez also struck out three in two and one-third innings pitched.
DSL Blue Jays Red lost two of three
The DSL Blue Jays Red lost 10-4 to DSL Colorado on Friday. Kennew Blanco hit a double and had a two-hit game. Nestor Urbina also hit a double, driving in three runs. All three pitchers who pitched in this game had a rough outing.
They played a doubleheader on Saturday against the DSL Mets Orange, as the first game was the completion of a rainout earlier last week. That game ended 4-3 for the DSL Blue Jays Red, with Elaineiker Coronando finishing with a multi-hit game. Victor Espiritu picked up the win, striking out the side in his inning pitched. Carlos Almonte picked up his first save of the season.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the DSL Blue Jays Red fell 3-1 to drop their season record to 1-4. Kennew Blanco hit his first career home run, while Juan Sanchez hit a double. Edgar Gallegos made the start, striking out four and giving up an earned run in his four innings of work. Raduan Perez struck out two in his inning of work.
DSL Blue Jays Red face Blue
On Monday, the DSL Blue Jays Red faced the DSL Blue Jays Blue. No home runs were hit, with DSL Blue Jays Blue’s Angel Guzman’s double being the only extra-base hit of the game. Daniel De La Cruz picked up the win for the DSL Blue Jays Red, striking out three in two and two-thirds innings pitched, allowing Red to walk it off.
