The Toronto Blue Jays have released some notable prospects recently.
On Tuesday, the team released two former Top 30 prospects in Dahian Santos and Damiano Palmegiani, as well as Canadian Nicolas Deschamps, Bo Bonds, and Jacob Wetzel. This was the team’s first wave of releases since mid-January.
Starting with the former Top 30 prospects, Palmegiani was drafted in the 14th round of the 2021 draft by the Blue Jays, the second time they selected the third baseman. Palmegiani had a rapid ascent up the minor league ladder, slashing .255/.364/.478 with 23 home runs in 557 plate appearances in 2023, after a strong 2022.
The following season, Palmegiani led the organization in home runs, but he slashed just .210/.311/.381 in his first full season with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. His 2025 season was a rough one, slashing just .159/.306/.233 with a home run in 216 plate appearances. Hopefully, another team takes a gamble on his power potential.
Like Palmegiani, Santos’ breakout season came in 2022. Beginning the season with the Single-A team, Santos had a 3.44 ERA and 3.51 FIP in 73.1 innings pitched, with a 39.3 K% and 11.5 BB%. The right-handed pitcher received a look with the High-A Vancouver Canadians to end the year, but didn’t pitch well over the four starts.
From there, injuries began to take over, as he made just 12 starts in 2023. In High-A, Santos posted a 3.54 ERA and 4.78 FIP, with a 27.2 K% and 13.1 BB%. His final start of the season was on Canada Day of that year. Santos returned to action in mid-June 2024, making three starts in 20 innings and reaching as high as Double-A. The right-handed pitcher missed all of the 2025 season.
Bonds’ release is a bit surprising. Drafted in the 13th round of the 2022 draft, his first full season as a professional came in 2024, where he had a 4.28 ERA and 3.10 FIP in 40 innings pitched, with a35.7 K% and 11.3 BB%. The 25-year-old righty had a respectable 2025 season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, posting a 3.34 ERA and 3.76 FIP in 35 innings pitched.
Deschamps, a Canadian catcher, had a solid 2024 season while splitting his time between Single-A and High-A, but struggled in 2025. Overall, he slashed just .159/.288/.227 with no home runs between High-A and Double-A. Wetzel was a Rule 5 selection in the minor league portion of the draft, and he slashed .154/.313/.256 with one home run in 48 plate appearances last season.
