The Toronto Blue Jays’ organization’s home run lead is a three horse race.
Two New Hampshire Fisher Cat players, Jace Bohrofen and Sean Keys, lead the organization with 10 each. However, Carter Cunningham isn’t too far behind those two players, as he hit his eight home runs of the season in the Vancouver Canadians’ 7-2 win over the Everett AquaSox.
On a 0-1 count in the bottom of the fifth, the left-handed batting first baseman sent a 403 foot blast over the right field wall at Nat Bailey Stadium, no easy feat. It gave the Canadians a 4-0 lead and held up as the game-winning run. Moreover, it was one of Cunningham’s two hits in the game, as he also hit his seventh double of the season.
So far this season, the 25-year-old is slashing .264/.404/.550 with eight home runs in 161 plate appearances, good enough for a 161 wRC+. His wRC+ among players with over 100 plate appearances is second, only behind Keys’ 163 wRC+.
Last season, also with the Canadians, Cunningham slashed .220/.346/.414 with 16 home runs in 419 plate appearances, so he’s on pace to hit more long balls than last season. Still, there are concerns, as he’s rather old for the level and also has a 30.4 K%.
We’ll see if he joins the lethal Fisher Cats offence in the coming weeks.

Other notes from the farm system….

Cunningham’s blast was the lone home run in the three “A” level games. Tucker Toman hit his fourth double of the season in the same game, while Nolan Perry’s terrific season continued, going five scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.
It wasn’t the only home run in the system on Thursday, as Angel Guzman, Renyel Campos, and Pascual Archila each hit a home run in the Florida Complex League’s 11-8 defeat at the hands of the FCL Tigers. It was the first loss the reigning FCL champions suffered, as their record now sits at 8-1.
Archila is the only qualified hitter in the Blue Jays system with a higher wRC+ than both Keys and Cunningham. Entering Friday’s game (spoiler alert, FCL Jays won 4-3), the outfielder is slashing .375/.571/.542 with a homer in 36 plate appearances for a 199 wRC+. Thanks to two good seasons in the Dominican Summer League, Archila is a prospect to monitor moving forward.
The Buffalo Bisons also won their game, holding onto a 4-3 lead over the Worcester Red Sox. All four of those runs came in the bottom of the second, with Josh Rivera, Carlos Mendoza, Ryan McCarty, and RJ Schreck all driving in a run. After winning the International League’s Player of the Week, Schreck’s RBI came courtesy of his eighth double of the season.
Riley Tirotta hit his third double of the season, while Rivera had a three-hit game, including his seventh double of the season. McCarty, Tirotta, and Schreck all had two hits, with McAdoo being the only player outside the four who finished with a multi-hit day.
Chad Dallas started the game, going four innings of one-run ball with two walks and five strikeouts. Chase Lee picked up his third save of the season, allowing two earned runs that brought his season ERA to 1.86.
The other team in action were the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, as the Fisher Cats were rained out. Unfortunately, the D-Jays lost 5-4 thanks to an eighth inning run by the Tampa Tarpons. Blaine Bullard hit his fifth double, while Yorman Licourt hit his fourth double. Bullard, Eric Snow, and Canadian Owen Gregg all had two-hit games.
On the mound, righty Troy Guthrie allowed three earned runs over five innings of work, giving up two home runs in the process. With his six strikeouts in this game, Guthrie now has a 22.8 K% and 4.1 BB%, but his six home runs surrendered is a bit concerning.
