Sean Keys is quickly making a name for himself in the Toronto Blue Jays’ farm system.
The corner infielder was drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 draft and led the organization in home runs in 2025. Less than a month into the minor league season, he’s nearly half way to matching his 19 home runs from last season.
Two of those home runs came in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ 6-4 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday. In the top of the second, Keys took Giussepe Velasquez deep to right centre field to put the Fisher Cats up 1-0.
In the top of the third inning, with Velasquez still on the mound, Keys took a 2-2 pitch to right centre field to give the Fisher Cats a 4-0 lead. He had three more plate appearances in the game, flying out, an intentional walk, and a pop out. Through 15 games, the third baseman is slashing .351/.464/.825 in 69 plate appearances, with a 13 BB% and 21.7 K%.
Ismael Munguia also hit a home run in this game, his first in the Blue Jays organization. With a single, Jackson Hornung’s hit streak now sits at 15 games and is now hitting .366. Aaron Parker drove in two runs, but struck out three times.
On the mound, Gage Stanifer went four innings with four hits, two runs, one earned run, three walks, and four strikeouts. All three of those walks were in the bottom of the first, before striking out two in the second and one in the third. Nate Garkow and Conor Larkin still haven’t given up an earned run after a scoreless outing.
The Fisher Cats have a chance to draw even in the series with Richard Gallardo starting on Friday evening.

Other notes from Thursday’s games…

Tied at seven each in the bottom of the sixth, the Dunedin Blue Jays eventually lost 12-7 to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. There were some positives from the game, however. Coming off winning the Florida State League’s Pitcher of the Week, Nolan Perry struck out seven and walked one in three and two-thirds innings of work. He gave up two runs, one of which was earned.
On the hitting side of things, Enmanuel Bonilla hit his second Single-A home run and had a two-hit, four RBI game. Aldo Gaxiola also finished with two hits, but the most impressive performance belongs to catcher Juan Rosas, who hit his first career Single-A home run in his first plate at-bat. He also drew two walks.
The D-Jays are back in action on Friday at 7:05 PM MT. Non-drafted Free Agent Dayne Pengelly gets the start.
In Triple-A, the Buffalo Bisons walked off the Columbus Clippers in the bottom of the 10th, a 6-5 victory. Josh Rivera hit his third home run of the season, while Josh Kasevich had a three-hit game, all singles. Will Simoneit had a three-hit game, including a double, and Yohendrick Piñango hit two doubles in this game.
Grant Rogers had a strong start, pitching five scoreless innings with just three hits allowed. He also struck out three. Brendan Cellucci struck out two in a scoreless inning, and Adam Macko was tagged with the blown save, allowing an earned run in one and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Bisons play at 6:05 PM ET, with Chad Dallas making the start.
Lastly, the High-A Vancouver Canadians defeated the Tri-City Dust Devils 5-3 to bring their season record to 9-9. Like clockwork, Carter Cunningham was the start of the game, going 3-4 with a triple. Peyton Williams was the other batter with a mutli-hit game, hitting his first double since joining the C’s.
On the pitching side of things, Danny Thompson Jr. made his second career start, going three and two-thirds innings and allowing one hit. He walked two and struck out five, maintaining his perfect ERA. Eminen Flores picked up his second save of the season, throwing two scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 0.87.
Friday’s game is a Nooner at the Nat, with Johnny King making the start. It begins at 4:05 PM ET.

Notes from Wednesday’s games

  • José Berríos made the start for the D-Jays, going four scoreless innings with five strikeouts and three singles. Not a whole lot else went right for the D-Jays.
  • In Vancouver, Daniel Guerra walked three and struck out three in five scoreless innings, Kelena Sauer struck out four in two scoreless innings of work, picking up the save. On the hitting side of things, Arjun Nimmala and Cunningham hit doubles.
