Thursday’s slate of minor league games were a good day for Toronto Blue Jays’ prospects acquired at the 2024 trade deadline.
With Yohendrick Piñango making his debut earlier this season, there are a handful of other players the Blue Jays traded for who could find their way to the major league roster sooner rather than later. Chief among them is Charles McAdoo.
On Thursday, the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons fell 12-8 to the Syracuse Mets. However, McAdoo drove in three runs thanks to a single and his sixth double of the season. Through his first 45 games at the Triple-A level, the third baseman is slashing .259/.369/.443 with seven home runs in 187 plate appearances for a 117 wRC+. McAdoo has also dropped his strikeout rate considerably (20.3%), while maintaining a 14.4 BB%.
More importantly, McAdoo slotted in at the keystone for the first time this season, and just the second time he’s played at the position since joining the organization in 2024. In his professional career, McAdoo has played 83 innings at the position. One has to presume that this is a move to improve McAdoo’s versatility, as he played some first base on top of his regular duties at the hot corner.
With the way he’s trending, he’ll be with the Blue Jays sooner rather than later.
Other notes….
McAdoo was one of three players the Blue Jays acquired at the 2024 trade deadline who had an extra-base hit in this game. Outfielder RJ Schreck was 2-3 with two walks and his ninth double of the season. Schreck was acquired for Justin Turner from the Seattle Mariners.
Also acquired from the Mariners was Jonatan Clase, who was one of two players acquired in the Yimi García trade. Clase hit his second home run of the season, with Riley Tirotta hitting the Bisons’ other extra-base hit, a double.
CRANKED by Clase 🔥
The other player acquired in the García trade, Jacob Sharp, hit his fourth home run of the season in the Vancouver Canadians’ 9-4 loss to Spokane, as well as a single. Alexis Hernandez hit his fifth double, capping off a three-hit game. Maddox Latta hit two singles as well, while Manuel Beltre had the team’s other hit.
Gilberto Batista, acquired in the Danny Jansen trade, gave up two earned runs in five innings of work, striking out three and walking three. Landen Maroudis, a 2023 draftee, gave up six runs, three earned, over two and two-thirds innings of work.
In Double-A, Jay Harry had a four-hit game on Wednesday, hitting the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ first grand slam in 999 days. Well, on Thursday, he went deep for the fourth time this season. Acquired in the Trevor Richards deal, Harry is now slashing .343/.373/.590 with four homers in 111 plate appearances for a 148 wRC+.
Jay Harry just can't be stopped! 😤
Jackson Hornung also hit his third home runs of the season in this game, as he’s now batting .268 for the season. Cutter Coffey, acquired in the Jansen deal, hit a single, while Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit two singles and Arjun Nimmala hit one.
On the mound, Gage Stanifer gave up three runs, one earned, over four and two-thirds innings. The right-handed pitcher struck out four and only issued one walk, dropping his ERA to 2.67 over his last six starts.
That was it for players acquired before the 2024 trade deadline, but there were some other notes from the lower minors. The Dunedin Blue Jays played a doubleheader, falling 10-8 in the first game, but winning the second game 4-3 in walk-off fashion.
In that first game, Blaine Bullard went 3-5 with two doubles. Nathan Lukes went deep and drove in two thanks to a single as well, while Aaron Parker and David Beckles each had a double in a two-hit effort.

As for their win, JoJo Parker hit his 11th double of the season and Bullard hit his third double between the two games. Raimundo De Los Santos hit a triple, and Jake Cook walked it off with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. Troy Guthrie made the start, giving up two earned runs over five innings while striking out four.
Lastly, the Florida Complex League Blue Jays defeated the FCL Phillies 12-5 to move their record to 12-2. Jean Joseph and Brock Tibbits each hit their first home run of the season, and Canadian Sam White hit his third homer of the season.
All starters in the lineup had a hit, with Angel Guzman’s being the lone player with a multi-hit game (three singles). Pascual Archilla hit his third double, Canadian Tim Piasentin hit his fourth double, and Canadian Sam Shaw hit his first double on his rehab assignment.
