The Toronto Blue Jays are getting one of their big bats back in the lineup.
Before Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, the team announced a handful of roster moves. Daulton Varsho was activated from the 10-day injured list, while Lázaro Estrada was activated from the 60-day injured list. To make room on the 26-man roster, both Charles McAdoo and Brendon Little were optioned.
Varsho’s return is a big one for the Blue Jays, as he’s capable of hitting home runs. He’s not having the best season, slashing just .253/.331/.408 with five home runs in 236 plate appearances for a 104 wRC+. For context, Varsho hit 20 home runs and batted .238/.284/.548 in just 271 plate appearances last season.
Still, having that power potential in the lineup is big for the Blue Jays, who have been starved for home runs in 2026. It seems like only a matter of time before Addison Barger is back to full health too, so that’ll be massive.
The Blue Jays could’ve used Estrada for Friday afternoon’s game, as the team blew through five relievers in a 16-2 loss. With the righty joining the bullpen, it gives the Blue Jays another option for long-relief in the coming days.
Little’s struggles have been well documented, accounting for 10 of the 17 earned runs Blue Jays relievers had given up when he was sent down in early April. Those struggles continued on Friday, giving up four earned runs with three walks over just an inning of work. His ERA sits at 27, so it may be the last time we see the southpaw in a Blue Jays’ jersey.
As for McAdoo, his playing time with the Blue Jays has been sporadic. The right-handed batting infielder hit his first career home run in his first game back on May 29, but has managed just three hits since then. At the time of his option, McAdoo was slashing just .160/.160/.280 in 25 plate appearances. He’ll benefit from playing time with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
