On Tuesday night, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that they traded infielder Tyler Fitzgerald to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for cash considerations.
Fitzgerald was acquired on April 4, 2026, from the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations after being designated for assignment by the Giants on March 30. The 28-year-old was originally optioned to Triple-A Buffalo before being recalled on April 7.
Fitzgerald spent a week on the Blue Jays’ active roster before being optioned back to the Bisons after the Blue Jays acquired Lenyn Sosa from the Chicago White Sox. During that time, Fitzgerald did not receive any game action with the big-league club.
In six games with the Bisons this season, Fitzgerald batted .150 with three hits, including a double in his first 20 at-bats. Fitzgerald recorded one steal in his lone attempt.
Fitzgerald will head back to the National League West, the division he spent his previous three big league seasons in. Fitzgerald was drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB draft by the Giants and appeared in 178 games over parts of three seasons from 2023-2025. Fitzgerald is a career .252 hitter with 21 home runs and 53 RBIs, and brings a speed element to his game, having stolen 28 bases in 36 attempts over his MLB career.
