Today’s prospect is among the best power-hitters in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Mid-Season top prospect list, where we’ll look at the 35 best prospects in the Blue Jays system. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our 23rd-best prospect, Damiano Palmegiani!

Getting to know Damiano Palmegiani…

Position: Third base/First base/Left field
Bats: Right
Born: January 24, 2000
Acquired: 14th-round, 2021 draft (Blue Jays)
Previous ranking: 10th
The Blue Jays originally drafted Palmegiani out of Vauxhall Academy in the 35th round of the 2018 draft, but he elected to head to university and spent time in the NCAA and Junior College. In 2021, the Blue Jays selected the corner infielder in the 14th round, with the Canadian-raised player signing with them.
After hitting two home runs in 48 plate appearances in 2021, Palmegiani started the 2022 season with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, where he slashed .256/.351/.508 with 11 home runs in 228 plate appearances. The same year, he joined the Vancouver Canadians, his hometown team, as he grew up in Surrey, British Columbia. There, he slashed .224/.335/.443 with 13 home runs in 272 plate appearances, along with an 11.4 BB% and a 22.1 K%.
Palmegiani advanced another level to Double-A to start the 2023 season, slashing .249/.351/.463 with 19 home runs in 461 plate appearances, along with a 12.6 BB% and a 27.1 K%. Earning a promotion to Triple-A towards the end of the season, he slashed .284/.427/.554 with four homers in 96 plate appearances, along with a 15.6 BB% and a 29.2 K%.
Unfortunately, Palmegiani has hit a bit of a roadblock in his first full season in Triple-A. After posting a wRC+ no lower than 116 at any level in his career, the 24-year-old has an 82 wRC+ this year. All in all, he’s slashed .214/.317/.375 with 15 home runs in 438 plate appearances, along with two home runs in 24 rehab appearances in Single-A. Moreover, he has a 28.8 K% and an 11 BB%.
Palmegiani’s best tool by far is his power. His 17 home runs are tied for second in the organization this season. Last season, he finished second behind Orelvis Martinez with 23 home runs, and third in home runs in 2022 with 24. Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Palmegiani’s 66 home runs rank second in the organization, behind Martinez’s 102 home runs.
His hit tool lags behind, though. Although he has a good eye at the plate, he has some swing-and-miss in his game, especially since joining the upper minors. He won’t likely ever hit for a high average, which isn’t the worst with the power he possesses. Defensively, he started playing left field this season, and he’ll likely end up playing left field or first base throughout his career.
