MLB announces Minor Leaguers will get paid $400 per week through May
By Cam Lewis
4 years agoSlowly but surely, Major League Baseball is announcing its plans for navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and the shutdown of baseball operations that occurred as a result.
According to an official statement from MLB (the specifics of the deal were tweeted out by Jeff Passan), Minor League players will be getting paid $400 per week from April 9 through the end of May. This money will be for MiLB players who are not on 40-man rosters. Prior to this, MLB had agreed to continue paying MiLB players their spring training honorarium cash in order to keep them afloat.
This deal favours players who play at the lower levels of the minors, as they usually live on less than $400 a week while players at the higher level typically make quite a bit more than that. It’ll be interesting to see if the Blue Jays continue to pay their MiLB players more than other organizations do. $400 a week ain’t much.
