Blue Jays Nation’s Pre-Season Prospect Countdown – No. 28: Franklin Rojas

Feb 2, 2024, 07:00 ESTUpdated: Feb 1, 2024, 17:51 EST
Today’s prospect will be the last of the 2024 International Free Agency class.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual pre-season list, in which I’ll take a look at the top 50 prospects in the organization. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publications’ scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at Franklin Rojas.
Getting to know Franklin Rojas…
Position: Catcher
Bats: Right
Born: March 20, 2007
Acquired: 2024 International Free Agency
2023 Team: N/A
Previous Ranking: Unranked
As is the case with all 2024 International Free Agent signings, Rojas has yet to make his professional debut, and likely won’t until June 2023.
Still, that doesn’t mean there aren’t eyes on the 16-year-old catcher. MLB Pipeline ranked him as their 27th-best international free agent, giving him a 55 overall ranking, along with 55 power and 55 field.
Their bio notes that the Venezuelan-native “is showing signs of being a solid defender with advanced game-calling ability, blocking, and footwork.” As for his bat, they note he is aggressive and does a good job making contact. Standing at 5’10”, 176 lbs, the young catcher is already showing future plus power.
Rojas ranks as Scott Mitchell’s 50th-best Blue Jays prospect, noting that he’s already touched triple digits in exit velocity. Moreover, Mitchell notes that Rojas could garner some comparisons to former Blue Jay Gabriel Moreno.
It’ll be interesting to see how Rojas does in his first professional season. He’ll be starting the year in the Dominican Summer League.
