It’s official, Trey Yesavage is back on the Toronto Blue Jays’ 26-man roster.
Yesavage, who has missed the first 28 games of the regular season after being placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement, will return Tuesday night when the Blue Jays host the Boston Red Sox in Game two of their three-game series at the Rogers Centre.
The 22-year-old made four rehab appearances (three starts) between Dunedin and Buffalo as he built his arm up to be ready to return to the Blue Jays’ starting rotation. In four starts, Yesavage went 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA and 1.75 WHIP across 12 innings pitched. Yesavage struck out 16 batters, continuing to showcase the swing-and-miss ability he flashed during the Blue Jays’ run to the World Series.
Yesavage topped out at 71 pitches during his third rehab appearance and is likely to remain limited to the 80-85 range to begin as the Blue Jays try to ensure the health of their prized rookie.
The 2025 season was special for the 2024 first-round draft pick, climbing across four minor league levels before finishing off the year on baseball’s biggest stage: the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After being called up on September 15, Yesavage would make three regular-season starts down the stretch, going 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 1.43 WHIP before really becoming a household name in October.
During the postseason, Yesavage made six appearances (five starts), going 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.05 WHIP, holding opposing teams to an average of .188 against. Yesavage struck out 39 batters across 27 ⅔ innings, registering two double-digit strikeout performances, first against the New York Yankees in the ALDS when he recorded 11, then again against the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series when he punched out 12.
The return could not come at a better time as the Blue Jays’ rotation, outside of Kevin Gausman and Dylan Cease, has struggled to provide consistent quality innings, leading to an overworked bullpen throughout the season’s opening month.
In a corresponding move, right-hander Chase Lee was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo after being recalled the day prior. Lee made his Blue Jays debut during the 5-0 loss against the Red Sox on Monday night, posting a line of 1.1, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, with the only damage coming on a Carlos Narváez solo home run in the top of the eighth.
Lee was picked up in an offseason trade and will return to the Bisons after recording a 1.32 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP, and two saves across his first nine appearances with the club.
