A catcher within the Toronto Blue Jays organization is being promoted to the next level.
On Tuesday, it was announced that catcher Edward Duran had been promoted from High-A Vancouver to Double-A New Hampshire.
Originally acquired from the Miami Marlins on August 31, 2022, Duran began his tenure in the organization with the FCL and has worked his way through Single-A Dunedin and High-A Vancouver before receiving the call to join the Fisher Cats.
After opening the 2026 season in Dunedin, Duran joined the Canadians and appeared in 44 games with the club. During that span, Duran batted .231 with two home runs and 18 RBIs. The 22-year-old slugged seven doubles, two triples, and reached base at a .276 clip.
A career .261 hitter with 12 home runs and 148 RBIs entering Tuesday, Duran was thrust right into the Fisher Cats lineup, batting fifth and working as the starting catcher with Blue Jays’ No. 2-ranked prospect Nolan Perry.
In his first at-bat at the Double-A level facing Erie SeaWolves left-hander Joe Miller, Duran lined the second pitch he saw for a single.
Coming back around to face Miller in the top of the fourth inning, Duran got ahead 2-0 in the count before dropping an RBI single in front of SeaWolves centre fielder Seth Stephenson to bring home Dub Gleed to tie the game 2-2.
After flying out in his third at-bat during the top of the sixth inning, Duran worked a four-pitch walk in the top of the eighth inning, but a tie game after nine innings gave Duran another opportunity to make his mark.
Coming up in the top of the 10th inning with runners on first and third, Duran fell behind 0-2 in the count. Facing left-hander Tanner Kohlhepp, Duran lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Fisher Cats a 5-4 lead in an eventual 6-5 victory.
