Rough.

Things worth mentioning

  • In one start, JA Happ saw his ERA jump from 3.67 to 4.80. Allowing seven runs in 3.1 innings will do that to you. I’m not panicking about this rotation yet, but man, these guys are too good to be getting lit up on a nightly basis like this.
  • Today was not a good day to be a Blue Jays pitcher. Kyle Seager hit a grand slam off of Happ in the first inning and it was all downhill from there. The Mariners reached base a total of 22 times tonight and had only (?) nine runners cross the plate. Of the four Blue Jays pitchers, only Aaron Loup didn’t give up a run. You know your staff had a good night when…
  • Definitely worth noting: Kendrys Morales was shuffled down to the 8th spot in the lineup. It’s really embarrassing when your designated hitter can’t do the only thing he’s supposed to do. It’s always great to have your American League slugger bat in the same spot that some NL managers elect to hit their pitchers in! I’m not saying to call up Vlad Jr. right now, I’m just saying that it’s probably better to eat the remaining money for this season and the $12M owed for next season and find somebody that doesn’t have an OPS below .500.
  • One of the lone positives tonight was Josh Donaldson’s three hits. With the dead arm, he hasn’t really been himself this season. An OPS of .820 in May would be good for pretty much everybody else on this team, but JD has that next level that he hasn’t gone into yet.
