The first trip to the House of Horrors! Surely, nothing will go wrong, right?

What happened?

On Friday, JA Happ turned in a rare bad start and the bats couldn’t get anything going against Andrew Kittredge and Ryan Yarbrough, both extremely real baseball pitchers, and the Blue Jays lost 6-2.
On Saturday, the team looked lifeless and umpire C.B. Bucknor (plus the video review people in New York) really didn’t do the team any favours. Blue Jays lose 5-3.
 Sunday didn’t see a sweep, thankfully. Marco Estrada turned in the best start of his season so far, going six scoreless innings. Tepera blew the save in the 8th but Pillar led off the 9th with a double and later came around to score. Jays win 2-1.

Thoughts

  • Even when good things happen, the universe reminds you that you’re a Toronto sports fan. In the fifth inning, with Anthony Alford on third base, Aledmys Diaz beat a throw to first base and then turned his ankle pretty bad. Just judging by the replay you can tell that we probably won’t be seeing him on Tuesday against the Mariners. Not sure which one it’ll be, but one of Richard Urena or Devon Travis will almost certainly be getting the call tomorrow.
  • Kendrys Morales started all three games this series, got four at-bats each game, and did not reach base once. It’s too soon to call up Vlad, given the fact that he still needs to refine his game in the field and the whole service time thing, so the Blue Jays might need to look elsewhere for production from that 1B/DH spot.
  • This capped off a .500 road trip and the Blue Jays now go home for 13 of their next 15. It’s too early to stress about the standings, but a really strong showing here would go a long way come September.
