On Monday, before the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, the Blue Jays announced they activated Trey Yesavage from the 15-day injured list and recalled Chad Dallas.
Yesavage has been on the IL since August 5 and underwent meniscus surgery on his left knee after originally suffering the injury during his most recent start against the Houston Astros on August 4.
The 23-year-old made one rehab start in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons and returns as the Blue Jays are in desperate need of wins with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance. Yesavage threw 34 pitches in his lone rehab outing and will most likely be limited to three to four innings. Through 18 starts this season, Yesavage is 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. The right-hander has struck out 91 batters across 93.2 innings pitched and has limited opponents to a .185 average.
Dallas returns to the Blue Jays’ active roster and may be thrown into action right away due to his ability to provide length behind Yesavage. Through four games with the Blue Jays this season, Dallas is 2-1 with a 6.10 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. In three of Dallas’ four outings with the big-league club, the 26-year-old has thrown at least 2.2 innings, so if Yesavage is forced to exit early, Dallas has shown an ability to cover multiple frames. Through 10.1 innings, Dallas has struck out 10 and been hit at a .250 clip.
To make room on the 28-man roster for both Yesavage and Dallas, right-hander Spencer Arrighetti was optioned to the Spring Training Complex and left-hander Joe Mantiply was designated for assignment.
Barring an injury, Arrighetti’s season comes to an end after pitching in 24 games (19 starts) between both the Houston Astros and Blue Jays. During that span, Arrighetti went 9-9 with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP across 110.2 innings.
Acquired in exchange for Daulton Varsho at the trade deadline, Arrighetti joined the Blue Jays with control until the completion of the 2029 season and will be an option to be in the club’s rotation when the 2027 season kicks off. Through seven games (two starts) with the Blue Jays following the trade, Arrighetti went 2-4 with a 6.35 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. The 26-year-old struck out 19, walked 14, and allowed opponents to hit .236 across 22.2 innings. Mantiply’s time in Toronto comes to an end after originally being signed to a minor-league deal in March. Through 25 games with the Blue Jays this season, Mantiply went 2-0 with a 3.33 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.
The 35-year-old returned to the Blue Jays’ roster on September 1 after missing three-and-a-half months due to left knee surgery. Across eight September outings, Mantiply pitched to a 5.79 ERA and allowed opponents to hit .308.
