One of the quieter breakouts in the Toronto Blue Jays system belongs to Aaron Parker.
On Wednesday evening, Parker became the eighth player in the Blue Jays system to reach double-digit home runs, blasting two long-balls in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ 11-10 victory.
The first came in the top of the fourth, hitting a solo shot which gave the Fisher Cats a 7-3 lead at the time. Then in the top of the sixth, with the Fisher Cats holding on to an 8-6 lead, the catcher hit a two-run home run for his 10th of the season. In his plate appearances before the two home runs, Parker also hit his fifth double of the season.
Overall, Parker finished with three hits in five at-bats, driving in four of the Fisher Cats’ 11 runs. After this performance, the catcher is slashing .270/.366/.491 with 10 home runs in just 184 plate appearances, good for a 126 wRC+. While he’s mainly caught behind the plate, his future defensive home doesn’t lie at the position, and there is some swing and miss in his game (29.3 K%).
Parker is one of several players selected in the 2024 draft who have broken out this season, joining Sean Keys, Carter Cunningham, Eddie Micheletti Jr., and a few others. Despite being in the organization for three years, Parker has never had more than 300 plate appearances in a season, with his career-high in games coming in 2025 when he played 63 for the Vancouver Canadians.
Other notes…
The Fisher Cats’ bats came alive in that game. Nick Goodwin hit his eighth home run of the season, walking twice and finishing 2-4 with three RBI. Hedbert Perez hit two doubles, and Jorge Burgos hit the other double. Cutter Coffey hit his third triple of the season. Micheletti Jr was the other player with a multi-hit game.
There were some positives on the mound as well, namely Javen Coleman who struck out four over two one-run innings for his fourth save of the season. Gage Stanifer started the game and gave up three earned runs over two innings of work, but he struck out five. A high pitch count (57 pitches) forced him out of the game.
The Triple-A Buffalo Bisons bounced back after a blowout loss in the series opener, defeating the St. Paul Saints by a score of 3-2. Carlos Mendoza hit his fifth home run of the season in the top of the ninth, which happened to be the game-winning run. Charles McAdoo and Je’Von each hit their eighth double of the season. It was a quiet game for Jay Harry, going 0-4 with an RBI.
Chad Dallas made the start, giving up an earned run over five innings of work, striking out four in the process. Brendon Little was the first pitcher out of the bullpen, and he struck out three in a scoreless inning and a third.
The High-A Canadians had a tough game, falling 12-9 to the Eugene Emeralds in the second game of the series. J.R. Freethy went 3-4 with a double and walk, the same line that Eric Snow had. Alex Stone also hit a double, while Edward Duran drove in three with his second double since joining the C’s.
As for the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, they hit a whole whack of singles in a 7-1 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads. Adam Hackenberg went 3-4 with a walk, and Brock Tibbitts went 2-3 with a walk. It was a tough game for JoJo Parker and Juan Sanchez, as they struck out four and three times respectively.
The other team in action were the Dominican Summer League Blue Jays Red, who defeated the DSL Mets Orange by a score of 7-3. First baseman Darwin Nuñez hit his first career home run, a three-run shot in the top of the third. Switch-hitting shortstop Gabriel Porras hit his third double of the season.
It was a successful day on the mound for four of the five DSL Blue Jays Red pitchers. Alieski Torres started the game and pitched three hitless innings, striking out four and walking two. Adrian Moreta struck out two in two scoreless innings, while Danny Martinez struck out the side in a scoreless inning. Jose Melo also struck out the side in a scoreless inning.
