Let’s take a look at our 20th-best prospect, Josh Kasevich!
<h2>Getting to know Josh Kasevich…</h2>
Positon: Shortstop
Bats: Right
Born: January 17, 2001
Acquired: 2nd-round, 2022 draft (Blue Jays)
Previous ranking: 22
The Blue Jays selected Josh Kasevich out of the University of Oregon in the second-round of the 2022 draft. He made his professional debut a few weeks later, slashing .262/.344/.336 with no home runs in 122 plate appearances with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.
Like most college-drafted players playing their first full season in the Jays organization, Kasevich started the 2023 season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, where he slashed .284/.363/.365 with four home runs in 383 plate appearances, along with a 9.9 BB% and a 10.7 K%. With the Canadians, he won the Northwest League Championship in 2023.

In 2024, Kasevich started his season with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, slashing .284/.333/.364 with three home runs in 393 plate appearances, along with a 6.6 BB% and a 10.7 K%. The 23-year-old was promoted to Triple-A early in August, and he’s slashed .296/.352/.388 with one home run in 108 plate appearances since joining the Bisons.
<a href="https://www.mlb.com/prospects/bluejays/josh-kasevich-688460">Kasevich ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 10th-best prospect in their mid-season update</a>. He’s lauded for his work ethic with great defence and an above-average hit tool. Kasevich also has a good eye and approach at the plate, which could help him become a big-league regular. However, one thing that immediately stands out is Kasevich’s lack of power. Throughout his professional career of 1006 plate appearances, Kasevich has only hit eight professional home runs.

If he can find a way to hit for more power, which some believe could happen, the Blue Jays could have their replacement for Bo Bichette, albeit a lower tier of quality. Either way, Kasevich will be an interesting prospect to monitor over the next few seasons.
