Sep 3, 2024, 15:00 EDTUpdated: Sep 3, 2024, 15:10 EDT
It’s not a matter of if, but when today’s prospect makes the big leagues.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Mid-Season top prospect list, where we’ll look at the 35 best prospects in the Blue Jays system. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our 22nd-best prospect, Dasan Brown!
Getting to know Dasan Brown…
Position: Outfield
Bats: Right
Born: September 25, 2001
Acquired: 3rd-round, 2019 draft (Blue Jays)
Previous ranking: 39
Dasan Brown was selected out of Abbey Park High School in Oakville Ontario in the third-round of the 2019 draft by the Jays. He made his professional debut shortly after, slashing .222/.444/.356 with no home runs in 63 plate appearances.
His first full professional season came in 2021 with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, where he slashed .212/.310/.323/ with four homers in 226 plate appearances, along with an 8.8 BB% and a 32.7 K% for a 79 wRC+.
However, Brown saw a breakout in 2022 with the D-Jays and High-A Vancouver Canadians. In Single-A, he slashed .279/.369/.450 with four homers in 162 plate appearances, along with a 10.5 BB% and a 27.8 K%. With the Canadians, he slashed .298/.392/.411 with two home runs in 176 plate appearances, along with an 8 BB% and a 28.4 K%. Moreover, he hit three home runs in three postseason games with the Canadians.
The 2023 season was a rough one for Brown, as he slashed .218/.309/.316 with seven home runs in 463 plate appearances, along with an 8.9 BB% and a 25.1 K%. His 74 wRC+ was the lowest at any level for Brown with a minimum of 100 plate appearances.
With that being said, the 22-year-old Canadian appears to be a better hit in years that end with an even number. In 2024 with the Canadians, Brown slashed .257/.363/.411 with eight home runs in 329 plate appearances, along with an 11.9 BB% and a 24 K% (a career-best). Brown’s promotion to Double-A has been rough though, as he’s slashing .176/.228/.270 with no home runs in 81 plate appearances.

The 22-year-old ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 24th-best Blue Jays prospect in their mid-season ranking. What immediately stands out about Brown is his speed, as he has an 80 grade for the tool. So far this season, he’s stolen 30 bases in 33 attempts. The speed also works well in the outfield, as he has great range in centre field with a solid arm.
On the other hand, his bat can be hit or miss at times. There’s also been a high strikeout rate in Brown’s game and the power is minimal. However, if he can either hit for a higher average or for more power, he could quickly become a must-watch prospect in the team’s farm system.
