This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual Mid-Season top prospect list, where we’ll look at the 35 best prospects in the Blue Jays system. We’ll look at the player’s stats, my observations, and other publication’s scouting reports if available.
Let’s take a look at our fifth-best prospect, Trey Yesavage!
Getting to know Trey Yesavage…

The Blue Jays selected Trey Yesavage as the 20th overall pick out of East Carolina University. In his first season with the Pirates, the right-handed pitcher posted a 4.50 ERA in 26 relief innings, along with a 37.5 K% and a 15.8 BB%.
Moving to the starting rotation for the 2023 season, Yesavage posted a 2.61 ERA in 76 innings pitched, along with a 33.9 K% and a 7.4 BB%. It was Yesavage’s 2024 season that led to him being picked in the first round, as he posted a 2.03 ERA in 93.1 innings pitched, along with a 40.4 K% and an 8.9 BB%.
Unfortunately, Yesavage won’t make his professional debut until the 2025 season, a common trend for pitchers the Blue Jays pick in the first few rounds. It’s expected that Yesavage will start his season in Single-A, but he could quickly climb up the minor league ladder, given his talent.
Yesavage ranked as MLB Pipeline’s best Blue Jays’ best prospect, along with the Blue Jays’ only top 100 prospect (he ranked 99th). According to the publication, he has a good arsenal, with his best pitch being his slider, which sits in the mid-80s and has a bunch of depth.
His fastball may not have a lot of movement, but it has a ton of carry and sits at 93-95 mph, topping out at 98 mph. Yesavage also features a low-80s curveball and a splitter, with both those pitches getting plenty of whiffs.
Standing at 6’4”, 225 lbs, there are concerns about his delivery, but Yesavage does a good job throwing strikes. A big reason for his success with East Carolina University in 2024 is thanks to improving his control and command with the fastball.
