The Cleveland Guardians have been one of the more prominent organizations to dip into Canadian baseball talent, and this next player is one of the highlights from the 2025 MLB Draft.

#15 – Will Hynes

Hometown: Mississauga, Ontario
Organization: Cleveland Guardians
Draft: Round 2, 2025 (CLE)
Position: RHP
Bats/Throws: R/R
Will Hynes was a highly scouted Canadian prospect hailing from the pitching hotbed of Ontario. He played in the Canadian Premier Baseball League with the Ontario Blue Jays, amongst other top Canadian prospects.
The right-handed pitcher was a hit around the nation, showcasing as a Junior National Team player (where he recently won the Canadian Futures Award), and at the Canadian Futures Showcase. Hynes was projected early as a top-level collegiate option and strong potential draft pick.
Perfect Game had Hynes ranked first in the province for right-handed pitchers and second overall amongst all players.
This ranking played heavily into his draft considerations, while his commitment to D1 baseball did the same. Hynes was committed to Wake Forest, but did not fulfill the commitment after being drafted in the second round by the Cleveland Guardians, joining an organization that boasts a ton of Canadian talent.

2025 Season

Hynes did not record any official minor league statistics in the 2025 season, working in draft camps and amongst the other draft picks following his signing. He was assigned to the Arizona Complex League after signing, where he trained, but he did not record any official professional innings.
What was important was the performances and numbers that Hynes put up to highlight his importance to evaluators before the draft. In the 2025 Perfect Game National Championships, Hynes went deep, throwing 100 pitches, striking out nine hitters to give his team the win.
With the Junior National Team extended spring training, he threw 14 combined innings within a four-game stint, which resulted in 15 strikeouts and two runs allowed.

Looking ahead to 2026

The right-handed Canadian chucker is yet to put up official digits against professional hitters, but his results shouldn’t be too far off. Within the amateur levels, Hynes is a high strikeout arm due to the ability to locate and effectively execute his pitches.
We can expect more contact from professional hitters, but outs will also be expected. Hynes’ fastball has been up to 95 mph, and his ceiling is high. He also works a good slider and change-up, which will force weak contact and roll over outs.
Hynes will start with moderate innings and will likely be under load management to start his professional career. Eventually, his innings will increase in trust and performance. His development, both physically and mechanically on the mound, will be pertinent this year. His command needs to stay consistent, and his change-up needs more exposure.
Hynes is expected to be a mid-rotation starter in his early minor league years. The Canadian prospect has promising projections and should rise within the ranks quickly.
